Slashdot HTPC article March 29th, 2005

This morning, I noticed a new article on Slashdot.org about Tivo's implementation of popup ads when people fast-forward through commercials.

I quickly posted:

I don't have to deal with popups, a small hard drive, a single hard drive and lack of upgradability. Plus, I have 3 tv tuner/encoders so I can record three shows simultaneously while watching a fourth recorded show.

I built my own HTPC using an Abit AN-7, AMD Athlon XP 2500+, Hauppauge PVR-250 tv tuner/encoder cards. It is driven by WinXP Pro SP2 and SageTV.

You can see my HTPC at www.terrystockdale.com .

I hesitated to post because my webhost was running slow today for some unknown reason. But, I did it anyway.

The visits, pages and hits went through the roof, although it was no banner day for google ad clicks — /.'ers just don't click ads, I guess.

Anyway, this set a record for me on visitors, pages served and bandwidth used on a single day.
