One of the most interesting news sites I have found is an innovative presentation called Newsmap.
Newsmap concentrates and presents news excerpts in a treemap visualization. Each block in the treemap is sized according to the popularity of the item at Google’s news site. Of course, clicking on any entry in the treemap actually takes you to the individual original article.
With coloration representing not only the topics (World, Nation, Business, Technology, Sports, Entertainment and Health) but also elapsed time (news less than 10 minutes ago, more than 10 minutes and more than an hour), the newsmap crams an intense overload of news onto your screen. Fortunately, you can select an individual topic and see an newsmap of it.
Similarly, you can access the last week’s archives at 6 hour intervals — so you can go back and see what was hot news last Wednesday at noon.
Newsmap is not even a U.S.-centric site — you can choose from Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, the U.K and the U.S. — or all of them!
