Firefox tops 50 Million Downloads

Congratulations to the Mozilla Foundation and all the people contributing their efforts to make the Firefox web browser a success! Version 1.0 was released in early November. Last Friday morning, Firefox topped 50,000,000 downloads.

I’ve been using Firefox since the 0.7 beta version, after reading comments about it in Maximum PC. I.E. is still around, but I reserve it for doing my Windows Updates and checking websites I design to make sure they look good in I.E. also.

Firefox’s features that make it stand a head above I.E. include: tabbed browser windows, ability to have multiple “home” pages, built-in pop-up blocker, non-support of Active-X, and a standard “bookmarks” file (unlike I.E.’s method of creating an independent shortcut for each favorite). Firefox can import your favorites (and cookies, passwords, etc) from I.E., Opera and Mozilla.

As I write this, the download counter is over 51.6 million downloads. Read more of my Firefox comments on my webpages at Terry’s Computer Tips.
