A Car Donation Can Reduce Your Taxes December 26th, 2005
Car Donation — Reduce Your Taxes
It’s End Of The Year — time for the last minute donations to take something off of this year’s taxes! Make a Car Donation!
The Internet is a great way to find a charity that will accept your old car &mdaash; or boat — The process makes it easy to get rid of that old car and take a donation, instead of just trading it in at the dealership.
Basically, the process is that you identify the organization to whom you can make a tax-deductible donation. Then, you contact them. They arrange and pay for a tow truck to pick up the vehicle, if it does not run. You sign the title over to them.
Once they get the vehicle, they almost always dispose of the vehicle via a reselling or auction process.
Be sure to talk with your tax advisor and/or check the tax laws closely to identify the docuementation you will need to support your deduction. This is especially important with respect to the valuation of the donation, since you are donating a “thing,” not money.
Also, be sure to take pictures of the vehicle before you donate it in order to be able to prove the condition (or at least how it looks).
The Gifts We Give Our Dogs December 21st, 2005
Carolyn Schweitzer has written an interesting article The Gifts We Give Our Dogs.
Quoted from the article’s introduction:
Whoever coined the phrase, “It’s a Dog’s Life” wasn’t familiar with 21st century dogs. Time was when the average canine slept outside, ate whatever scraps of food were tossed his way, and if he was lucky, was thrown the occasional bone. He was even expected to earn his keep!
Carolyn hits the nail on the head with this insightful article. Wondering what to get your Dog?

Satellite Radio – The Christmas Toy For All Year Long December 9th, 2005
Satellite Radio. I first heard of it several years ago, as I know you did, too. The initial concept was a hard-wired unit in the car for an exhorbitant price and monthly charge.
How the times have changed! I have several friends who have gone the satellite radio route, whether they live in big cities or small towns.
One of the most interesting ideas is being able to actually listen to the station that I want to, even if I’m in the middle of nowhere, on the Interstate, 300 miles from home.
Combine that with a portable model that lets you carry your satellite radio receiver into the house and plug it into your stereo/hometheater system, and you have a big winner. Check it out.
